Greetings!! I only say so since its been so long since my last post.
Recently I was on my way to see a client and while I was driving a major accident on the highway took place. It was a Saturday morning, I say Saturday since it is something I never do....work on the weekend that is--however I decided to do so now. Not really sure why I did, I just did. I was five minutes away from appointment driving westbound on the highway until I saw a tractor trailer starting to jump the median on the eastbound side and come over to my side of the highway. It was happening in slow motion from what my mind was seeing. The cab was beginning to turn over the the trailer began turning over to my side, ripping apart, rolling, briefly airborne, and dumping its load all over the highway. It took a second for me to realize it was heading for me (or I was heading for it). In a split second I did what I could do to come to a stop and hoped the turning bundle of wreckage headed towards me would stop. it stopped and so did the trailer portion on my side of the highway right in front of me. If I had been distracted for a second, I would've easily been part of the wreck. All of the other cars were able to stop as well and avoid the spillage of the trailer.
After getting my mind together I figured I was fine and decided to check on the driver of truck. The truck was only a couple of feet away from me on the other side of the highway. I jump on the cab which was on its side and a smoking mess. I tried to pry the passenger side door open but it was jammed and the window was still in tact. It was about a minute before anyone else came to help, not to mention someone was screaming, "get away, its going to blow" since it was leaking lots of different fluids from the engine. When the help finally came, myself and a few others banded together to try and get this guy out. One guy actually pulled out a gun to break the glass, he identified himself as an off-duty police officer. We didn't like this idea at all, luckily some guy shows up with one of these industrial crow bars, the ones that firemen use to break open doors. What the hell he was doing with one of those in his trunk, I couldn't imagine. Well that got the job done, the glass broke and were able to lift the guy out through the window. He was more shook up than injured I think.
I realized why I was there in the first place and figured there was plenty of people there on scene to help with whatever else, so I decided get back in my car and go. By the time I got to my clients house, I was several minutes late however I didn't realize by the time I rang the bell to their home, I was filthy from the accident but bleeding from a cut on my arm I didn't realize I had, I was also still breathing pretty hard I suppose from the excitement of what just happened. When my client opened the door I could only imagine what was going through their mind when they first saw me, a huge dirty, bleeding, heavy breathing man looking like he had just been through hell. I immediately explained what happened and ask to use their bathroom so I could clean up. They were quite understanding and were probably more appreciative that I spent the extra time to help someone in need. All in all my appointment went well.
The next day I looked for evidence of the turmoil that had to have been created by that accident in the newspaper, I wanted to know more details of how this came out but saw only a blurb about it on a fringe website. It appears the driver was cut off by another car and thats how this all got started. Anyway the accident shook me a bit since I realized I could've been killed and I pondered many things from it. I won't get it into them now, maybe thats for another day. I am just luck to be alive.
